How to back a cross stitch bookmark

So, as promised, I will share my step by step instructions for how to back a cross stitch bookmark. This is the first time I have ever done it so the final outcome is not as neat as I had anticipated but by the time I come to do the second one I’m confident it will look a little bit neater!

Anyways…

You will need:

  • A cross stitch bookmark
  • White card
  • Ribbon
  • Matching thread
  • Needle

1. I started by trimming the excess fabric so that there was just 2cm of fabric above and below my design and ironing it from the back. Cut the piece of card so that it is slightly shorter and slightly narrower than your bookmark. I used white card so that it wasn’t visible through the aida but if your fabric is a different colour and it shows through you might want to find a piece of card that is as similar to your fabric as possible.

Swamped in WIPs!

This week was the first week of semester two which meant back to university! The Christmas break seems to have lasted forever and, although I am ahead with my reading, my brain has not yet caught up with knuckling down with university work. This week I have found anything possible to do that can distract me from the work I have to do. Surprise, surprise, craft things were the top of my list!

For someone who doesn’t like working on more than one project at once, I have suddenly found myself with a lot on the go! Continue reading

A Week of Non-Stitching

I was hoping to make some significant progress on my stitching projects this last week but for various reasons that didn’t come off. However, I will share with you the little bit that I have managed to get done. I have managed to finish the outline on the lettering in my ‘Vintage’ kit from Bothy Threads and I have cross-stitched the first two object, in this case, a shoe and an umbrella.
