Kawaii Halloween Swap

Hello!

Since it is Halloween tomorrow I thought I would share with you the items that I sent and received in the Kawaii Halloween Swap! This was a swap organised on Instagram a few months ago and I couldn’t resist signing up! Halloween is my favourite holiday and I cannot resist anything Kawaii so it was the perfect swap for me! Thanks to a drop up shortly after sign ups I manage to steal a last minute spot for the swap and I was thrilled! It was the first Instagram craft swap I had taken part in and it was a great experience – I’d definitely get involved in another one in the future!

Here are the items that I sent to my partner Snow:

All

As usual, I had planned to make loads of stuff that I didn’t have time to complete before the shipping deadline! But overall I was pleased with everything that I put together for the package and Snow really seemed to like everything which was great. I’m always anxious my partner will be disappointed with what I send!

Here is a closer look at everything I included: Continue reading

A Crafty-What-Nots Catch Up!

Hello! You might remember from my post back in October, that I was lucky enough to be asked to review the first ever Crafty What Nots Subscription Box. I absolutely adored the first box and, as you can see from my post, it made an absolute tonne of projects! I still have some supplies from that first one left now! I was so in love with that first box that I immediately bought myself a three month subscription. Then, when that ran out…I bought myself another one! There have now been 4 further boxes since my first review, and I wanted to post a quick catch up post showing you what I have made from the last 4 boxes!

Each box comes with some instructions for a couple of projects, plus you also receive an inspiration sheet with some further ideas on, suggesting ways that you can use the supplies in your box. I have always stuck to the safety of the projects with instructions, or the ones on the inspiration sheet as I haven’t got much experience with papercrafts, but that certainly doesn’t make it any less fun!

The first box after the ‘Floral Pavilion’ was a Christmas box! It was ‘Winter Wonderland’ and it has a wonderful  elegant feel with a strong cream and grey colour scheme. As soon as I got home from work I was rummaging around the box and even completed my first project in an hour before my dance class. It was this lovely wire heart with bells and beads; not only does it look really impressive, but it was also really quick and easy to make! My heart is slightly wonky, but it just adds to the handmade feel and it hangs in pride of place in our living room.

The ‘Winter Wonderland’ box also had the instructions and supplies to make 25 beautiful origami pouches to hang on the tree and use as an advent calendar. Each little pouch will hold a sweet or chocolate and again, they were really straight forward to make but have a wonderful finished look. Me and James made these together and it was so much fun! We didn’t manage to make them before Christmas 2014 but we can’t wait to put them on the tree this year!

My 23rd Birthday

Wow, my break from blogging really did last longer than I expected! Apologies for going AWOL for a few months, 2014 was a HUGE year for me – moving out of my family home for the first time into a house with James, starting a graduate job, finishing my masters dissertation – just to name a few! Because I had so much going on it has taken a few months to get into a regular routine around working different shifts and arranging a housework pattern, as well as fitting in hobbies and voluntary work. I am hoping that I have managed to strike a balance which is now going to allow me to get back into a blogging routine! I’ve got so many things to share with you since I’ve been away, starting with my 23rd birthday presents ( I’m only two months late, I don’t think that is too bad!)

My 23rd birthday was back in December and I really wanted to share my presents with you but…well, you know what December is like! The run up to Christmas got really chaotic and I never got round to sharing my presents with you but hey, better late than never!

Anyway, to kick it off, here are my crafty presents from James! I picked my first present as I had been eyeing up this adorable Disney cross stitch for a while. After visiting Orlando in 2013 and Disneyland Paris in November I was hooked on anything Disney-related, so what can get better than Disney-related crafts! I really wanted to get a large Disney cross-stitch, ideally of the castle, so when I saw this one of Mickey and Walt Disney I knew it was perfect. The pastel colours are really pretty and I love the level of detail in the design. I can’t wait to start it but I have quite a lot of projects keeping me busy this year! (More on that in a future post…)

Another crafty gift from James! He picked out a sewing kit for me from Liberty when he was recently in London with work (he is well trained!) He bought me this patchwork cushion kit which I couldn’t wait to make a start on – I’d sewn it together before I even got a photo of it in the packet! It is a simple 9 square design with an envelope close at the back. James picked the kit with lovely blue fabrics in it to match our sofa – I couldn’t have picked better myself Continue reading

Book Review: DK Handmade Gifts

Edit 1

Author: Dorling Kindersley.
Genre: Non-Fiction, Crafts.
Published: August 2013.
Pages: 251.

Way back in December, people asked me to review the books that I got for Christmas 2013. I managed to review Crochet Boutique, but I never got any further! So I’m going to try and get back on track with my weekly book reviews, for the Christmas books that I have neglected.

In the past, I have never really paid much attention to DK craft books, but after discovering this one, I think I have been missing out! The minute that you open the book, you are introduced to its beauty!

Edit 2

This book is laid out really beautifully, and it is really accessible. Following the introduction, the projects in the book are divided into seven sections; For The Home; Jewellery; Bags and Accessories; Pampering Gifts; For Pet Lovers; Edible Gifts; and Gift Wrap. There are then also sections on templates, tips and an index followed by a page dedicated to the authors and designers of all of the projects. Continue reading

So Many Stitches

WP_000524

Last week Me and James went to stay with his parents for a few days, which meant a few days away from university work and a few days to focus on crafts. I took the birthday card that I have been stitching with me and made a huge amount of progress! I should have it finished soon but I’m afraid I can’t share it with you until they have received it!

While we were away, I bought the threads for a couple of other project, the first of which was the metal cuff that I bought last week. I was hoping to sit down on the evening of our return and stitch it as a quick project but it is anything but! I cannot find a needle anywhere that will go through the holes which is a pain. The improvised solution I have come up with it to use my needle threader to pull the floss through the holes but it takes so long and it has already broken one threader so the project is on hold until I can come up with another solution. And if that wasn’t headache enough, the chart for the rose from the magazine has been adapted to fit in the bracelet, but there is no chart showing what changes have been made so I am having to try and work it out from the photograph which makes the progress even slower.
