Mum’s Vintage Sewing Book

Book 1

The other day, my mum was having a clear out, and she came across this adorable vintage sewing book, which she had bought when she was younger. Her plan was to write her sewing projects in it, but she never got round to it, so when she unearthed it, it was still completely unused. Since she passed on her love of crafts to me, she also decided to pass on the book too.

Book 2

I love the adorable introduction, it is so cute! The font is pretty unusual and it did take me a while to get used to reading it! I love the beautiful illustrations too! Continue reading

English Society Haworth Trip

Last week I had the pleasure of taking a group of students to the Bronte Parsonage in Haworth with the English Society. Along with the president, Charlotte, and assistant secretary Rob, we successfully herded 13 students around the village and museum (without loss or injury!) A pretty impressive achievement if you ask me! We had a wonderful day and pretty much missed the bad weather. Charlotte gave a tour of the village, which hasn’t changed very much since the Bronte sisters lived there. We then had dinner at the Apothecary Tea Room, where we were treated to traditional English Sunday Lunch in a Yorkshire pudding, followed by Bakewell tart, apple pie or Christmas pudding. There was a little bit of time for shopping before a talk from a volunteer at the museum (a Hull University alumni!), who told us about the lives of the Brontes. There was then time to walk around the museum or to return to the shops before the coach trip home. We had a great day and I thought I would share my souvenirs with you! I didn’t have chance to take many photos while I was there as I was the first aider, and it was tricky to take pictures while toting around the first aid box!

The majority of my shopping took place in the beautiful Rose Apothecary, which really hasn’t changed in appearance for hundreds of years! My first round of shopping was from the Paul & Joe Make-up range. I got a beautiful carousel eyeshadow in an adorable cat box, a pretty mint nail varnish and some blotting papers.

All the of Paul & Joe make-up is packaged so beautifully! It is almost too pretty to use! I already have some more items on my wishlist for my next visit that I am hoping to make in January!

I also got some Rose Apothecary items while I was there: Continue reading

The Vintage Fair…Mark Two

If I hadn’t learnt the first time I visited The Vintage Fair, I paid it a visit this weekend on its latest visit to Hull and, once again, my fabric stash has grown and my bank balance has shrunk! This trip was a much speedier visit though, as the fabric stall was right where I walked in this time so I picked up my piece as I had just stepped through the door…the second fabric stall was just two stalls away then I was spent up! It was worth it though, I got some great vintage fabrics at great prices!

The first piece that I bought was a piece of 1980s Laura Ashley fabric that I had no idea what I would use it for but I couldn’t leave without it!

So Many Stitches

WP_000524

Last week Me and James went to stay with his parents for a few days, which meant a few days away from university work and a few days to focus on crafts. I took the birthday card that I have been stitching with me and made a huge amount of progress! I should have it finished soon but I’m afraid I can’t share it with you until they have received it!

While we were away, I bought the threads for a couple of other project, the first of which was the metal cuff that I bought last week. I was hoping to sit down on the evening of our return and stitch it as a quick project but it is anything but! I cannot find a needle anywhere that will go through the holes which is a pain. The improvised solution I have come up with it to use my needle threader to pull the floss through the holes but it takes so long and it has already broken one threader so the project is on hold until I can come up with another solution. And if that wasn’t headache enough, the chart for the rose from the magazine has been adapted to fit in the bracelet, but there is no chart showing what changes have been made so I am having to try and work it out from the photograph which makes the progress even slower.
