Rando: My New Favourite App

I’m generally not an app person; I’m an old-fashioned pen and paper person. My diary, to do list and just about everything else I ever need to make a note of is done in one of my trusty notebooks. I only use my phone for texting, calling and occasionally browsing the internet…the only app that I use on a regular basis is the calculator!

However, yesterday James wrote a blog post about the app Rando. The app works in a similar way to Postcrossing, but it is all done via your mobile phone. It works so that you take a photo and it randomly gets sent to another app user anywhere in the world. As soon as you have sent the photo, you then receive one from somewhere else in the world. All of the photos are sent anonymously and you do not know who receives your photo, or sends the one that you receive, making the app all about the photos. You do, however, get a rough glimpse of where your photo has come from as you can flip the photo to see the sender’s location on the map. The photos are taken in a ‘peephole’ style circular image, which looks really effective.

I was hooked on the app instantly and have sent and received loads of photos already! Here are some of my favourites that I have been sent:

Cat from Hangzhou, China

The app is incredibly addictive and I’m really enjoying building up a collection of one of a kind collection of photographs from around the world. I’m sure this is an app that will grow in popularity and will certainly play a large role in my day to day life!

Well that was very interesting! I’m thinking that this idea was truly inspired by postcrossing. I’m gonna download it when I have an internet connection again. Thank you so much for having this post! Just loved it!!!
