Yes, I’m aware it is only July, but since my crochet-learning has progressed quicker than I expected, I began considering the other day, whether I would be able to make some gifts for my family this Christmas.
The idea stemmed from my brother, who commented on seeing my finished beanie, “I want one of those in black.” This completely threw me as, for any 16-year-old boy, NOTHING his sister does is considered ‘cool,’ so, jumping on this opportunity (as I definitely never know what to buy him) I decided that I would crochet him a black beanie for Christmas.
The next gift idea that I encountered was for my Dad (surprisingly, the other one that I struggle to buy for!) I discovered this one in one of the really old Patons Knitting and Crochet booklets that my Grandma leant me. My Dad is an avid golfer, so when I saw some crochet golf club covers I knew that that was my next problem solved!
Even the cat has got her hand made gift sorted with this adorable little bed that I found!
I thought I had lost the link to the pattern but after some searching, I found it here!
That just let my Mum to sort it. It surprised me that I hadn’t found anything for my Mum sooner, as normally I know exactly what she wants, however, I think the problem may have been that I found too much that she would like, and nothing really stood out.
Fortunately, I stumbled upon a three part tutorial to make this:
My Mum has always loved Snoopy, so as I found this I knew that it was what I had been looking for!
And if all of that isn’t going to keep me busy enough, me and my Mum may have a table runner to make for my Grandma if ours go to plan!
And of course, I can’t forget my boyfriend, but as he reads my blog, you’ll all have to wait until December to see what surprise he has in store! Although I do have a few crochet projects lined up for my boyfriend, his Christmas present is going to be something a little big different! Time for me to try something completely new…
That’s quite unfair not letting me have a little hint 😛 ❤
You’re not having a hint 😉
I’m sure they can’t wait to have their special Christmas presents. 😉
I hope so! I hope I get chance to make them all!
I’d love to try crocheting. But I don’t think I have the perseverance. haha! a very cute beanie you have there. cool brother too! 😀
I thought I would be the same but it is surprisingly easy to pick up and much quicker than knitting! It usually only takes a couple of days to complete a project!
Wow! I’ll be sure to try that soon 🙂
I’d recommend it! I just bought two balls of yarn that cost me £1.60 each and a cheap 5mm hook so if I didn’t take to it there wouldn’t be much of a loss! Then I used crochet videos on youtube to learn how to make granny squares. I only started two months ago =D
aah! So you started by watching youtube videos only? Cool. I’ll definitely do the same since there’s no one to teach me. Thank you so much Hannah! 😀
Yep, I knew that I wanted to learn so I took the plunge and just started watching Crochet Geek’s Youtube videos on how to make granny-squares. It was really useful because I didn’t know how to read the patterns to begin with and she covers the stitches in slow motion. I was the same and had no one to teach me and after I had been learning for a month my Mum asked me to teach her! You’re welcome! I can’t wait to see how you get on! You need patience for the first square though…it took me hours to work out how to do the first stitch!
You even taught your mom?! Cool! I’m starting to get giddy right now I want to start right away! 😀 I’ll be watching that channel, and we’ll see how I’ll do. 😀
I did! I plunged straight into having a go but it might be worth watching a few videos first to get an idea of what you would like to make and what to do. It is pretty straight forward to pick up once you know the stitches though! Good luck!
Thank you! 😀 Oh, may I ask, what was the size of your hook when you did your first project? 🙂
I got a 5mm/size H hook, it is the one I always seems to be the most reliable one! If you find a project you like it will probably recommend a hook size anyway but a H is always a useful one if it doesn’t mention a size/
Got it. Thank you! 😀
No problem!
Wow, you are going to be busy, and I think handmade gifts are far more special because they are made with love, my family will be getting cross-stitched and knitted presents whether they like it or not!
They definitely are! I just hope I get them all done!
