Crochet Throw Update!

This week I really lacked motivation to stick to my ‘granny-square-a-day’ rule, which I had previously been sticking to really well. However, so as not to lose all motivation with my throw, I decided to spend this week stitching together what I had instead.

After reading numerous blogs where people complained about sewing squares together, I was worried that I would instantly give up on that too! However, once I started seeing my throw come together, I could quite happily sit for hours stitching it!

After a week, I have stitched together the 36 squares that I had made! Even though it is currently smaller Β than my runner, I have once again gained momentum in my project and I can’t wait to crochet more! Form now on, I will probably crochet 12 squares then sew them on as another row to keep me motivated and to keep the sense of progress that you don’t have with just a bundle of squares!

So this is what I have so far and hopefully before long I will have plenty more to show you!

P.S. please excuse the mess in the corner! Oops!

Thank you! I wanted it to match my bedroom but I thought the red would be difficult because it is an unusual shade of red but I went to my local craft shop and they had exactly the right colour! The only problem is that I can’t see it if I put leave it on my rug!

I love all the different squares, this is turning out great. I’m saving the sewing together for after all the squares are done, mostly because I haven’t decided how I want to join them yet. There are some neat options out there.

Red and White, awesome combination! I’m sewing mine together as I go along too. It serves two purposes: one, I feel like I am accomplishing something, and two, it keeps the cat from stealing my granny squares.

Thank you! I chose the same colours as my bedroom so it can look pretty on my bed πŸ™‚ Haha well I feel like I am accomplishing something but if I risked leaving them lying around I’m sure my cat would pinch them too!

That’s coming along awesomely!! I get like that sometimes too and then I have to go back and look at what the finished piece will look like or at something that I’m going to do after I’m done with this one and before long I’m on a roll again.
I think it’s a great idea to sew them on row by row. That really will motivate you to keep it going!!

I thought so too! As much as I love crochet I was definitely getting fed up of granny squares! But now that it is starting to come together I am definitely feeling more motivated! Luckily by making one square a day it still gives me time to work on smaller projects too so I still feel the satisfaction of having completed something!

Plus when you see the throw completed you can see all of the other stuff that you’ve done in the same time frame as well. Then you’ll really feel awesome!! πŸ˜€

I can’t do either one. Everytime I try everything always comes out lopsided. Have you tried loom knitting?? That’s what I do and I’ve already made a little bad for my daughter, a few beanies and a blanket for her is sitting on it right now. I’m not going to work on it again until it gets a bit cooler because it comes along quite quickly.

Haha well a few of my squares were a little wonky but sewing them together seemed to save them! I haven’t but I’ll have to give it a go! I love to try new crafts!

I didn’t do the sheet actually, although I wish I had! It was funny how I came across the sheet actually, I think someone that my Dad works with was throwing it out (brand new!) for some reason, and he brought it home and it matched my room perfectly!

I really need to stop distracting myself with other projects and get crocheting more regularly (maybe pick one night/tv show to be crochet time). As my blanket is going to be totally random, I’m sewing them as I go along and now have a granny knee blanket!

    • Hannah Ackroyd says:

Well I always end up distracting myself with other crochet projects so my poor blanket is suffering 😦 however, I’m quite happy plodding along with a square a day! I hope mine grows soon, I will feel happy when half the bed is covered!
